So yesterday at Jason's we decided to get the canoe out so we could prove our manliness by taking on the choppy bay and stare down the jet-skis and boats. But first we had to take up the task of carrying it out of the tight confines of the basement. After a good 20 minutes of "jimmying" it and generally destroying two door frames, Kevin came up with the solution and in no time we had the canoe out of the house and were heading down the beach. Success! As storm clouds rolled in and the wind picked up, the challenge was now to actually get out beyond the rocks and take on the choppy sea. If there's one thing that makes you feel powerless (or at least not fully in control) it is nature. Be it hurricanes, waves, tornadoes, etc., man is often quite minuscule in comparison. Sure, we can conquer or survive, but often only with help (be it a boat, basement, etc.). It makes one think of the awe the disciples must have felt when Jesus calmed the waves and rebuked the wind on the Sea of Galilee. Only God can truly control nature since he created it. Man can try to predict the weather, but we can't control it. It's good to know there's some things in life that can still truly humble both Christians and non-Christians alike.
Tonight, I'm planning to teach the new brew crew here the ropes of homebrewing. Our first batch is supposed to be a Fat Tire clone, so I'm excited.
I've started the checklist of tasks to complete to get a visa for Korea. This could take a little while...
